Ah, the Americans. While every other country in the world is content with hosting just one annual motor show, the Yanks, rather predictably, have four. And the the final stateside motor show of the year opened its doors to the press and public this week.
The problem with these shows is, as I'm sure anyone who has ever been to one will testify, that they're absolutely vast. If we brought you news of every model which will be on display in Los Angeles we'd be here for hours and you'd die of boredom. I mean, do you really care about Audi's new range of diesel engines? Really?
So, to combat the information overload, we've handpicked (not literally, obviously) the best and most interesting cars from this year's Los Angeles Auto Show. Click on the links and images to find out more about the cars.
Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black
This is the new Merc SLS AMG Black -- a strange name for a car which is quite clearly yellow. The boffins at AMG's ultra-high-performance Black division have managed to coax an extra 59 rampaging Teutonic horses out of the SLS's 6.3-litre V8, and have stripped 70kg from the car's weight for good measure.
Mercedes-Benz Ener-G-Force concept
With the Ener-G-Force, Mercedes has provided the answer to a question literally nobody was asking, namely: "What would a Mercedes-designed police car look like in the year 2025?" As you can see, the Ener-G-Force is absolutely hideous and, rather worryingly, Mercedes claims that the concept previews the look of the upcoming 2015 G-Class.
VW Beetle Cabriolet
This is the new VW Beetle Cabriolet, and, yes, we are aware that it looks EXACTLY like the old Beetle Cabriolet. The new model, however, comes with a range of new engines and, best of all, an active rollover protection system which stops your head coming off if you roll the car over. Which is nice.
Lexus LF-CC
The Lexus LF-CC was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September, but the concept made its official US debut in LA. To get the low-down on the LF-CC concept, click here.
Jaguar XFR-S
The new super-hot Jaguar XFR-S is Jaguar's attempt to steal the BMW M5's crown as the best medium-sized performance saloon on the market. Whether it succeeds or not remains to be seen, but with a 540bhp 5.0-litre V8, we'd say that the Jaaaaag stands a pretty good chance. Also on display is the new F-Type, making its American debut in new Black Pack trim.
Range Rover
The new Rangey is also making its US debut. Faster, stronger, lighter, cleaner, greener and more luxurious than ever before, Land Rover's new top-of-the-range mud-plugger is a car which is likely to appeal to the American buyer.
Lamborghini Aventador Roadster
The Aventador made its stateside debut in LA this week. Click here to read about one of the most beautiful cars we've ever seen.
BMW Concept K2 Powder Ride
BMW's new K2 Powder Ride concept is aimed at skiers, and features a raised ride height, a roof box and an exterior speaker system which makes it the perfect car for political candidates looking for a car in which to canvass the electorate.
Subaru Forester
Subaru's new Forester is more upmarket than its predecessor thanks to 'sporty' styling and an improved interior. It also features a range of new engines and a redesigned face.
Chevrolet Spark EV
Chevy's new electric Spark is also on display in LA and is destined to go on sale in America next year; however, it's unclear whether it will make it to Blighty.
Volvo S60 Polestar concept
Volvo's 500bhp M5-rivalling Polestar concept has been unveiled by the Swedish manufacturer in LA but it remains to be seen whether Volvo will actually make it. We hope they do.
