Mercedes has released pictures and details of its new Ener-G-Force concept ahead of its debut at this month's LA Motor Show.
The Ener-G-Force has been developed by Mercedes for the Los Angeles Design Challenge, and is designed to show how a Mercedes-developed police car might look in the year 2025.
However, in addition to this, the Ener-G-Force previews design elements which will be incorporated into the upcoming 2015 G-Class.
Gorden Wagener, Director of Design at Mercedes, said: "The Ener-G-Force is the vision of an off-roader that, while reflecting tomorrow's adventures, also invokes the genes of the Mercedes-Benz off-road icon, the G model.
"Modern and cool, it could also be a clue about a new beginning for the off-road design idiom of Mercedes-Benz."
The influence of the G-Class is obvious in the styling of the Ener-G-Force; however, it's the technology with which Merc has loaded the concept which is most interesting.
The Ener-G-Force is driven by four wheel-mounted hydrogen-powered electric motors. Water held in containers on the car's roof is fed into a 'Hydro-Tech Converter' to supply electricity for the batteries. Mercedes claims that the Ener-G-Force would have a range of around 500 miles.
