Volkswagen has revealed teaser sketches of its new T-Roc concept, which previews a new compact SUV, ahead of the car's unveiling at next week's Geneva Motor Show.
The T-Roc is a two-door, four-seat, all-wheel drive SUV which is designed to slot into the range below the Tiguan but above the Taigun SIV concept which was revealed at the Sao Paulo motor show in 2012.
Like the latest Golf, the T-Roc is based on the Volkswagen Group's MQB architecture and weighs just 1,420kg. The car's roof is made of a carbon composite which not only saves weight but allows it to be removed in two halves, each of which can be stored in the boot and turning the car into a convertible.
Power for the T-Roc comes from a 181bhp turbodiesel engine mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox and a 4Motion all-wheel drive system. 0-62mph takes 6.9 seconds and flat out the T-Roc will do 130mph, while Volkswagen claims the car will return 57.6mpg and emit just 129g/km.
The T-Roc has some serious off-road credentials too. There's a full 280lb-ft of torque on offer and drivers can choose between three driving modes -- Street, Offroad and Snow -- which control the settings of the running gear, engine, gearbox and hill-start and hill-descent systems.
The T-Roc's interior also features a 12.3-inch colour touchscreen display tablet which reacts to finger gestures.
The Geneva Motor Show starts next week.
