Mazda released their new CX-5 compact crossover 4x4 at the Frankfurt Motor Show today.
The CX-5 will go on sale here in Britain next year with a choice of petrol and diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, and 2WD or 4WD.
The engines on offer will include Mazda's new SKYACTIV 2.0-litre petrol, developing 163bhp and 155lb-ft of torque. Also available will be a 2.2-litre SKYACTIV diesel with two power outputs - 148bhp with 280lb-ft of torque, and 173bhp with 310lb-ft of torque. The petrol engine should deliver 47.1mpg and 139g/km of CO2 with 2WD and a manual 'box, while the diesel, also with 2WD and a manual 'box should deliver 62.8mpg and 119g/km of CO2.
At 4.5 metres long, the CX-5 promises good levels of interior space with a 500-litre boot and fold-flat seats in the rear. Mazda also promise high quality trim, low noise levels and good ergonomics.
There is no word from Mazda yet on the prices but expect a base CX-5 to cost around the £20,000 mark.

Mazda is also set to premier a new 3 model with lower CO2 emissions. On the outside Mazda have fiddled a bit with the styling and on the inside new seat trims are available and Mazda promise reductions in both wind and road noise. More efficient aerodynamic styling should also make for improved fuel economy.
The Frankfurt Motor Show runs until 25th September.
