The new Polestar 3 is the first SUV from the fast-growing Scandinavian electric car brand. Set to rival the BMW iX, Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-Pace, Mercedes-Benz EQC and even the Tesla Model X, the new Polestar 3 is open for orders now, with prices starting from £79,900. Deliveries for those buying or leasing the new Polestar 3 will start in late 2023.

A large and athletic-looking car, the new Polestar 3 has a modern and function-led look. It has cleverly-integrated aero features, such as front and rear aero wings, plus carefully honed details to give it a particularly low aerodynamic drag factor (Cd) of 0.29.

This is despite launch models boasting 21-inch wheels. The Polestar 3 Performance Pack version, which costs an extra £5,600, actually has 22-inch wheels, for even more high-performance attitude.

Trademark Polestar features such as dual blade LED headlights and full-width LED rear light bar help this SUV stand out on the move. A clean appearance is also achieved at the front by hiding the various radar and sensors in a ‘SmartZone’ cluster. If you look closely, you’ll spot stickers that depict their various functions.

The new Polestar 3 has a similarly modern interior, focused around a striking 14.5-inch central touchscreen. This runs the Android Automotive operating system, so has built-in Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play app store. Super-speedy functionality is delivered by a Snapdragon Cockpit Platform from tech giant Qualcomm. Those buying or leasing a new Polestar 3 will get free over-the-air software updates for life.

The central screen is complemented by a 9.0-inch driver display. They’re both surrounded by stylish and futuristic trim, such as repurposed aluminium deco. The materials are sustainable too, including bio-attributed MicroTech, fully traceable wool upholstery and animal welfare-certified leather.

The new Polestar 3 is a five-seat large SUV, with the roomy interior bathed in light from a standard panoramic glass roof (which features an illuminated Polestar logo). Seats-up, the boot has a 484-litre capacity, including 90 litres of underfloor stowage. With the rear seats folded, it expands to 1,411 litres, plus there’s an additional 32-litre front storage compartment.

The new Polestar 3 will be launched in Long Range Dual Motor guise. This uses front and rear electric motors to deliver a combined 489PS. Those buying or leasing a new Polestar 3 can thus enjoy 0-62mph acceleration in just 5.0 seconds. A Polestar 3 Performance Pack is available for an extra £5,600; power is boosted to 517PS and the 0-62mph time falls to 4.7 seconds.

Both versions use a large-capacity 111kWh battery. The new Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor has a 389-mile electric driving range, while the Polestar 3 Performance Pack has a 360-mile range. Both can use super-fast 250kW rapid chargers, potentially going from 10-80 percent charge in just 30 minutes.

For the first year of production, the new Polestar 3 will come with both the Plus Pack and Pilot Pack as standard. Equipment includes a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system, soft-close doors (with retractable handles), heated front and rear seats, a head-up display and advanced Pilot Assist.

In addition, the Performance Pack brings 22-inch alloys, Polestar Engineered chassis tuning, and ‘Swedish gold’ exterior and interior details (including the seat belts). From summer 2023, customers will also be able to order a Pilot Pack with Lidar from Luminar. This offers enhanced 3D scanning of the Polestar 3’s surroundings, preparing it for autonomous driving.
