PROS: Good to look at, good to drive and practical to boot, the Clio Sport Tourer is a cracking little car.
CONS: The steering is a little vague and lifeless and resale values will be weak.
The Clio Sport Tourer's 1.2-litre TCe petrol engine produces 100bhp and 114lb-ft of torque. This engine is arguably the pick of the range and propels the Clio from 0-62mph in a respectable 11.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 114mph.
The Clio Sport Tourer is superbly refined and extremely quiet for such a small car. It also handles well with plenty of grip and very little body roll although the steering is a little over-assisted and vague.
Although it isn't quite as chic as its smaller hatchback brother, the Clio Sport Tourer is still a good looking little car. The interior is also very stylish and the quality of the plastics is very good indeed.
Standard equipment includes cruise control, alloy wheels, air-con, Bluetooth, electric front windows and a CD player with MP3 connectivity. Sat-Nav costs an extra £470, metallic paint will set you back £455 and upgrading the air-con to climate control costs £285.
The Clio Sport Tourer isn't huge but it offers a decent amount of boot space with 439-litres on offer with the rear seats up and 1277-litres available with the seats folded flat.
Renault don't have the best reputation for reliability and the Clio only rated averagely in the 2011 J D Power Survey but it feels well made and is supplied with a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty.
The standard Clio scored the full five stars in the Euro NCAP safety tests and the Clio Sport Tourer should also be a very safe car thanks to a good range of airbags. Stability control is an optional extra, however, at £315.
The Clio Sport Tourer Dynamique TomTom 1.2 TCe 100 is around £1,000 more expensive than the equivalent Clio hatch at £14,700 but you do get a lot more car for your money.
The Clio should also be very cheap to run and should return 52.3mpg (combined) and CO2 emissions of 125g/km put the Renault under a low tax band: D. Group 12 insurance should also be very cheap.
