PROS: The Clio Renaultsport delivers fantastic performance, good roadholding and a stylish interior. A brilliant little car.
CONS: The ride is very firm, especially at low speeds, and the driving position is weird.
The Clio Renaultsport 200's 2.0-litre petrol engine develops 200bhp and 158lb-ft of torque. This translates into a very impressive 0-62mph time of 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 141mph.
The Renaultsport handles very well indeed and feels very lively through the bends. There is very little body roll through the corners though the downside to this is a firm ride. However, this is all part of the charm of the car.
It's not the most refined car in the world but that's not the point. It's a blistering little hot hatch and comes into its own on B-roads.
The Clio Renaultsport 200 looks fantastic thanks to its big alloy wheels, rear diffuser and muscular stance. The interior is also very stylish and feels well put together.
Standard equipment includes alloy wheels, climate control, electric windows, cruise control and CD player with MP3 connectivity. Optional extras include Bluetooth (£290), Sat-Nav (£470), leather seats (£1045), rear parking sensors (£315) and metallic paint (£455).
The Clio Renaultsport is just as practical as the standard car with 288-litres of boot space with the rear seats up and 1038-litres with the rear seats down.
It should also be safe, having scored the full five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests.
The Clio Renaultsport should be mechanically reliable but owners have highlighted some reliability issues with the interior.
The Clio Renaultsport 200 is not cheap with prices starting from £17,930. However, considering the Clio's blistering performance, it could be argued that it represents good value for money.
With CO2 emissions of 190g/km, the Renaultsport falls under VED band J and you'll only manage 34.5mpg on the combined cycle. Group 30 insurance is also a bit steep for such a small car and reflects the car's performance credentials.
