The Renault Megane GT Line TomTom dCi 160 5dr delivers excellent performance from its diesel engine, and boasts an impressive range of equipment. In addition to this, the model is fuel efficient, with an average economy of 47.9mpg.

It comes with decent safety equipment and is the perfect balance between performance and efficiency in terms of its engine. The high level of standard gadgets will appeal to the younger set or tech savvy buyers.

PROS:  Impressive equipment range. Efficient engine.

CONS:  A little pricey. Not much rear headroom.

Behind the Wheel

The 1995cc diesel engine delivers a healthy 160bhp at 3,700 rpm and an equally impressive 280 lb ft of torque at 200 rpm. From standstill to 62mph is achieved in an astonishing 8.5 seconds making it the quickest Megane in the entire range. A top speed of 134 mph means it is also the fastest.

The model performs well on the road, delivering a smooth and refined driving experience, although the ride can be a little firm in places. The handling is decent with sharp, responsive steering while bumps and road imperfections are absorbed with relative ease. The cabin is generally a quiet one, with just a little wind noise at motorway speeds.

Looks & Equipment

The current model Megane is far better looking than the previous version that caused controversy in design circles with its rear “big bum” look. However the front end could have done with a few tweeks too.

Standard issue alloy wheels add to the good looks of this car.

Standard in-car equipment is impressive with climate control, satellite navigation, CD player and MP3 connectivity amongst the technology included.

A standard issue immobiliser and alarm are the chief security enhancements.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

Safety features include driver, passenger and side impact airbags and stability control as standard.

While listed to seat five adults, the rear seats would be a little uncomfortable for adults for longer journeys, with a lack of headroom. The model would make an excellent family car for people with yound children however.

The ample 372-litre boot will swallow most family holiday requirements and those looking for extra load space will be impressed that this figure is nearly trebled when the rear seats are lowered.

The car comes with Renault’s standard three year, 100,000 mile warranty and a network of 260 dealers will add to potential buyers’ peace of mind.

Value for Money

At first glance the £22,095 price tag might seem excessive and will not appeal to first time or family buyers. But you do get a lot of car for your money and the high list of standard equipment and good fuel economy figures make the Megane Line TomTom dCi 160 seriously worth considering.

With an average economy of 47.9mpg and excellent performance, the Megane represents a decent investment.
