This model is much more aggressive and comes with a sloping roofline and highlighted intakes making it look more sporty and solid. It comes with a boot of a decent size and plenty of room, making it a car which offers sporty good-looks and relatively good practicality. Buyers will be drawn to the vehicle by its impressively low emissions and excellent fuel economy.

PROS:  Good level of equipment. Fuel economy. Low emissions.

CONS:  The steering is too light and numb making the driver feel a little detached from the car.

Behind the Wheel

This model comes with a 1461cc diesel engine which is fairly powerful with a top speed of 118 mph and the ability to reach up to 0-62 mph in just 12.3 seconds. The engine produces 110 bhp and torque values of 177 lb-ft at 1750 rmp, resulting in quite good and punchy performance and a combined mpg of 68.9mpg.

Even at high revs, this four cylinder in-line 8v engine will produce less noise in comparison to others. Even on rough and twisty roads it results in a balanced and perfectly controlled drive, making it a pleasure to ride in. Its small engine is powerful and gives good fuel economy.

The Megane Renaultsport might look like it belongs to a racetrack, but it's refined enough to make a civilised everyday car. There's some wind and road noise at speed, but the engine's throaty boom settles into the background on the motorway, and although the abrupt clutch action takes some level of adjustment, the gearshift is short and sweet.

Looks & Equipment

This model comes with an excellent level of equipment, including high quality sports seats, leather bound steering wheel, cruise control, MP3 connectivity, CD player, Bluetooth connectivity, satellite navigation system, electric door mirrors, electric front windows, metallic paint finish, stability control and climate control as standard.

This Coupe comes with good range of standard sports seats along with the option of adjusting them and the steering wheel to ensure maximum driver comfort. Its attractive dashboard, yellow rev counter, unique steering wheel and aluminium pedals make this Renault sport more luxurious but a small back window results in poor visibility.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Megane comes with plenty of space in the front for those with long legs, but there is not much headroom available as compared to some rivals. Even its back comes with a sloping roofline which results in discomfort for passengers sitting there. However, this one comes with a well-shaped, decent sized boot measuring at 344 litres with the seats up and 991 litres with the seats folded.

All the models provide utmost safety measures and the Renalutsport ranks pretty high with airbags for driver, passenger and front side of the car as well as central locking, stability control, rear parking sensors and an alarm to safeguard the vehicle from any danger of accident or theft.

The Megane has high-grade materials and a good standard of fit and finish, and that’s enough to give the cabin an impressively classy feel. There are some concerns, though: Renault hasn't exactly covered itself in glory in the reliability and customer satisfaction surveys – it's usually close to the bottom of the rankings.

Value for Money

This model represents good value for money. The car emits very low levels of CO2 measuring as 106 g/km in comparison to other versions and rivals and this makes it a fairly green car whilst keeping road tax costs low. It also comes with an excellent level of equipment.

Priced at £20,690 the car comes with three years warranty for 100,000 miles. The car also comes with a service interval time of 18,000 miles or every 24 months, and falls into the road tax band category ‘B’ and insurance group 17. Although the initial outlay is high resale values are strong and that is an advantage. The combined mpg of 68.9 is excellent and will ensure vast savings on fuel.
