The Megane Coupe is certainly a good-looking car and this sporty version has a few added touches which give it an attractive appearance, but this simply isn't as practical as a similarly priced hot hatchback. Equally, the driving experience isn’t as fun as some of its competitors, and the stiff suspension means that passengers will be in for a bumpy ride.

PROS:  The Renault Megane Coupe GT Line TomTom TCe 180 3dr has some very impressive performance figures, and the good level of equipment makes this a classy car to drive too.

CONS:  The hefty purchase price and high running costs means that it won’t suit many pockets, and getting in and out of the back seats is quite a challenge.

Behind the Wheel

There is plenty of power on offer, but the driving experience doesn’t quite match up to deliver the complete package. The steering is quick to answer the wheel and the Megane does handle well, but the suspension is very firm and this means that many people will find that the ride is too uncomfortable. The driving position is fine with a fully adjustable seat and steering wheel, and forward visibility is good, but the small rear window means that rear visibility is poor.

This engine does respond well and is one of the best in the Megane Coupe range, with acceleration from 0-62mph taking place in a brisk 7.8 seconds. The top speed of 142mph is also very good, but at higher speeds there is a fair amount of noise both from the wind and the road.

Looks & Equipment

The Megane Coupe GT Line TomTom TCe 180 3dr is an attractive car, with the large intake and metal detailing at the front end giving it an aggressive face. The alloy wheels included as standard with this model also give the Coupe a sporty look. Inside the cabin there is more metal detailing, and the large speedometer dominates the dashboard, but there are quite a few small buttons on the centre console that could be awkward to use while driving.

The level of equipment offered is quite good, with satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity complementing the CD stereo to deliver a useful and fun centre console. The rear parking sensors are particularly useful because of the poor rear visibility from inside the cabin, and the car also has climate control which will help to keep the driver and the passengers comfortable.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

There is no doubt that the Megane Coupe GT Line TomTom TCe 180 3dr is a car that has been designed to turn heads, but this has meant that a few sacrifices have been made. Space in the back seats is limited, and the boot isn’t that large either. Renault doesn’t have a particularly good reputation for reliability, and driver surveys have suggested that the Megane Coupe isn’t the most reliable car.

The Megane Coupe does appear to be a very safe car, and has a wide range of airbags to look after the driver and passengers in the front and rear of the car. The inclusion of a driver’s knee airbag is certainly welcome, and the car also has a good range of driver aids to ensure that the car remains firmly under control.

Value for Money

The Renault Megane Coupe GT Line TomTom TCe 180 3dr is pricey with a list price of £21,565.

The running costs for this model are also significant, with a combined fuel economy figure of just 36.7mpg. Insurance is likely to be pricey, but because of its desirability it does hold its value better than many other Renaults. One highlight is the impressive 4 year or 100,000 mile warranty and 4 year's roadside breakdown assistance package, which is better than many of its rivals offer.
