The Mondeo 2.2 TDCi (200ps) Titanium X Sport is a good-looking family car which delivers impressive performance. It's practical, safe and well-made but, at over thirty grand, it's very expensive for a Ford.

PROS:  Comfortable, safe, good looking, practical.

CONS:  Expensive for a Mondeo. Not cheap to run.

Behind the Wheel

With a top speed of 134 mph, this car performs well for its class. It is also remarkably fast taking just 8.6 seconds to travel from 0-62 mph thanks to the powerful engine which delivers a maximum power output of 138bhp.

Unfortunately, refinement levels are not as good for the engine and the handling could be a little better.

Looks & Equipment

The car is enhanced with alloy wheels as a standard feature of this model, but its exterior can look slightly more unique as there is an option for the car to be painted in metallic for an additional £545.

The interior of the car has added comfort and luxury as drivers and passengers can enjoy the luxury of Alcantra/leather seating. Standard features include Bluetooth, MP3 connectivity, rear parking sensors, climate control, electric front windows and door mirrors.

Satellite navigation is also available but this will cost drivers £1,000.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Mondeo is covered under warranty for three years, or up to 60,000 miles. This provides peace of mind for drivers and means that they should be able to enjoy years of stress free motoring.

The car has a good amount of boot space, which is highly important for families. When the rear seats are folded there is a generous 1,728 litres of free space, and when the seats are upright there is still a more than sufficient 537 litres to fill with belongings.

In terms of security, the car is well secured as it has central locking fitted. An alarm is also fitted as a standard feature and this means that the car is protected from theft.

The car is concerned with occupant protection. Airbags are fitted as standard in the three key areas for the driver, passenger as well as front side airbags to give maximum safety in the event of an accident.

Value for Money

Owners of the Ford Mondeo 2.2 TDCi (200ps) Titanium X Sport Automatic 5dr are getting a lot with this vehicle, but that is expected as the car costs £30,695.

The car is not particularly eco-friendly, producing 173g/km of CO2. Fuel efficiency of 43.5 mpg is decent for a car of this class but fails to deliver the economy families crave and this means this is a rather expensive option for buyers.
