Q: What happens when you take the Jaguar F-Type and give it a roof?

A: Well, you end up this: the new Jaguar F-Type Coupe, which has just made simultaneous world debuts at both the Los Angeles and Tokyo Motor Shows.

Okay, let's start from the top. The F-Type convertible is arguably one of the most beautiful cars on sale today but the coupe, to our eyes at least, looks even better. From almost every angle the F-Type Coupe is an almost unbelievably good looking car which seems to have been designed primarily to elicit girly noises from anybody standing within fifty feet.

Like the convertible, the F-Type Coupe is offered with a brace of 3.0-litre V6 engines -- a 335bhp supercharged unit and a 375bhp version of the same engine -- and a V8. However, while the drop-top F-Type's V8 develops 488bhp, the engine in the coupe churns out 542bhp.

As a result of this, the range-topping V8R Coupe will get from 0-60mph in four seconds flat -- two tenths quicker than the V8 convertible -- while the V6 and V6S models manage it in 5.1 and 4.8 seconds, respectively.

Jag claims that the F-Type Coupe is "the most dynamically capable, performance-focused sports car" it has ever made. Not only is it 20kg lighter than the convertible, thanks to that hard top it's significantly more rigid. Jaguar even goes so far as to claim it's the most rigid car the company has ever built. On top of this, there's a new torque vectoring by braking system, a new electronic diff and a Carbon Ceramic Matrix braking system which is not only lighter than the standard system but also more fade-resistant.

The F-Type Coupe is also more practical than its soft-top stablemate. Because there's no roof to fold away, Jaguar has managed to find 407-litres of stowage space behind the cabin, compared to the convertible's measly 196-litres of boot space.

Prices for the Coupe are £7,285 less than they are for the equivalent Convertible, with the V6 listed at £51,235, the V6S £60,235 and the V8 R Coupe £85,000.

The Jaguar F-Type Coupe will go on sale in the UK in March 2014.
