This is a fantastic car. It is relatively cheap for a sports car and the GT spec gives it that racing feel. It is a very fun and easy drive. The practicality isn’t the best, but is by no means bad. This car is a good blend of performance and economy.

PROS:  A great car that isn’t too expensive to buy or to run considering its performance stats. GT spec comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, a leather multifunction steering wheel and tinted windows.

CONS:  The back seat space is minimal and getting in and out of the car requires some flexibility. The boot is not the biggest and is an awkward shape. The added extras are expensive.

Behind the Wheel

The cabin of the car is very nice. The sports seats and flat-bottomed steering wheel give the car a great sporty feel. The dashboard is well-equipped.

Visibility is good, despite the tinted windows and the noise from the engine is minimal at cruising speeds. Drop down a gear though and tempt to throttle to hear the Scirocco roar.

The 2.0 TSI engine is fantastic. It is a smooth and refined engine. It produces 207 bhp, which is plenty and will see the car do 0-62 mph in a swift 6.9 seconds. The Scirocco will reach a top speed of 148 mph.

The power steering works with the stability system to create a responsive, yet light steering system. There is little body-roll around corners and the car gives hours of fun, gripping the road on twisting country lanes. The suspension has a balanced set-up, giving a comfortable ride, whilst still keeping the sporty feel.

Looks & Equipment

The Scirocco is a fantastic looking car. Its aggressively styled body is striking and this GT model has added extras to make you feel like you’re driving a racing car. These include tinted windows and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The car comes with various other great features including climate control, electric door mirrors, electric front windows, an alarm, an immobiliser and Bluetooth/MP3 connectivity.

The optional extras include a satellite navigation system for £1335, leather seats for £1740, metallic paint at £465 and cruise control for £235.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The car is not the most practical car. However, it still has a number of uses, with four seats and an average-sized boot at 312 litres, but a sizeable 1006 litres with the seats down.

As a Volkswagen, its reliability is without question and it is a very secure car. It comes with an immobiliser and alarm as standard. It also comes with numerous air-bags and deadlocks to deter thieves. This Scirocco scored five stars overall in the Euro NCAP ratings. The warranty lasts three years, or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.

The build quality of the cabin is fantastic and the car feels secure as you drive it.

Value for Money

The Scirocco represents good value for money. It costs £26,005, but for that you will get a car that does 0-62 mph in less than 7 seconds and will push close to 150 mph at maximum speed.

For your money you are also getting a car which can be used around town on a daily basis, albeit with a slightly cramped rear and standard boot.

The running costs are not cheap, but again, considering what you are getting they are more than reasonable. The car is in insurance group 32 and tax band H. The car will do 37.7 mpg which is quite good for what is essentially a sports performance car and the CO2 emissions are 174 g/km. The Scirocco will also hold its re-sale value very well, especially this desirable GT TSI version.

The service costs will also be higher than average, but with a reliable and secure car such as this, repairs will be few and far between.
