Background
The original Scirocco was first put into production in 1974. It used the platform of the Golf/Rabbit and the Jetta yet the car was distinguishable from the Golf and the Jetta cars for its huge emphasis on sport, in respect to both engineering and styling.
The first generation Scirocco had a few mid-life facelifts including the addition of chrome bumpers, and it was replaced by the second generation model in 1982. The second generation Scirroco was very different to its predecessor with much redesign, featuring a new rear spoiler, a change of interior, power windows, a manual sunroof and air conditioning.
The Scirocco was then completely replaced in 1992 by the Corrado which was an attempt by Volkswagen to attempt to be more upmarket.
Sixteen years later the Scirroco was brought back for a third generation model; still based on a Golf platform (the PQ35 platform) and still popular.
Overview
The Volkswagen Scirocco manages the neat trick of being good to look at and practical for everyday use. It offers something a bit different from the norm and this is highlighted by the engines offered.
