CarSite Verdict:  4.5/5
The BlueMotion diesel is a great engine and this Scirocco is good car. It is a stylish car, which has been adapted to be more economical and environmentally friendly. It retains good performance, whilst offering lower fuel costs.

PROS:  A solid diesel engine means you can have a balance of economy and performance, in a desirable sports car.

CONS:  The car is quite expensive, especially when compared with the entry level 1.4 Scirocco - which is arguably more fun to drive.

Behind the Wheel

The Scirocco 2.0 TDI BlueMotion is supple on the road and delivers crisp, responsive steering to complement its impressive grip through the corners - everything you could want in a sporty coupe. The engine gives a low thrum, and performs more quietly in higher gears.

The 2.0 litre diesel engine produces a modest 138 bhp - 30 bhp less than the GT 2.0 TDI. This means that the Scirocco has a top speed of 127 mph and can travel from 0-62 mph in 9.3 seconds. These are hardly earth-shattering figures but this is the price you pay for fuel economy; if you want a fast car, buy the 2.0-litre petrol.

Looks & Equipment

Like others in its class, the Scirocco BlueMotion TDI is sought after for its stylish exterior and sporty features.

It comes with electric heated mirrors, air-conditioning, traction control, rain-sensing wipers, ABS, Bluetooth, MP3 Connection and alloy wheels as standard.

Optional extras include, cruise control, climate control, heated seats, leather seats and a satellite navigation system.

The Scirocco has an elegant and stylish interior, which is easy to navigate and comes with the great build quality that we have come to expect from Volkswagen.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Scirocco will seat four comfortably, although leg and headroom are limited in the rear of the car. As well as this, the 3-door body makes getting in and out of the car a little difficult. The boot offers 312 litres and 1006 litres with the seats down.

The Scirocco scored five stars in the Euro NCAP tests and has an electric engine immobiliser, as well as an alarm with interior protection. It is a safe and secure car, with the reliability you would expect from Volkswagen.

The warranty is for 3 years or 60,000 miles.

Value for Money

The Scirocco BlueMotion costs £23,735 and it is £785 less than the standard Scirocco 2.0 TDi with considerably lower running costs.

It is in insurance group 22 and tax band D, meaning both road tax and insurance cost are at the lower end of the scale, especially for a sporty car. The engine also gives 57.6 mpg, which means visits the the petrol station will be fairly infrequent. It produces CO2 emissions of 129g/km which is impressively low.

The Scirocco BlueMotion comes with Volkswagen's reputation for reliability and the car should not need regular repairs. The Scirocco also depreciates very slowly thanks to its desirability so resale values should be very strong.
