PROS: The 911 Targa 4S has a great engine, delivers bucketloads of power and handles brilliantly. That glass roof also offers some of the benefits of a cabriolet without the impracticality.
CONS: Expensive to buy and expensive to run, you're going to need deep pockets to keep a 911 on the road.
The Targa 4S comes with Porsche's 3.8-litre flat-sox engine which produces an impressive 380bhp and 309lb-ft of torque. This means 0-62mph takes a very impressive 4.7 seconds and flat out you'll be doing 183mph. The superb PDK gearbox offers seamless gear chabges and also shaves two tenths of a second off the 0-62mph time.
The 911 Targa is slightly softer than the standard Coupe but it it still great to drive with mountains of grip thanks to the four-wheel drive system and an agile, racy setup. The 911 really is a great car to drive.
The 911 looks absolutely sensational; this is one seriously desirable car. The interior is similarly sublime and is put together well and made from high quality materials.
Standard kit includes alloy wheels, climate control, electric windows, leather seats and a CD player. Optional extras include Sat-Nav (£1311), Bluetooth (£445), MP3 connectivity (£227), rear parking sensors (£348), cruise control (£299) and metallic paint (£745).
Every 911 comes with front, side airbags and head airbags. Porsche's stability management system is fitted as standard, and anti-rollover bars pop up behind the rear seats in the event of a rollover.
The 911 is surprisingly practical and has a boot space of 135-litres. The rear seats are only suitable for children but there are plenty of storage solutions inside the cabin.
Porsches are phenomenally reliable cars and there should be no worries on this front. A 3 year/unlimited mileage warranty is inluded as standard.
As with any convertible, the roof will be a weak point for security, but the presence of standard deadlocks and an alarm compensates for this.
The 911 Targa 4S PDK 3dr is very expensive at £88,920 but you really are getting an awful lot of car for your money.
CO2 emissions of 251g/km mean that the 911 falls under VED band L which means a showroom tax of £790 and annual road tax of £445 a year thereafter. 26.4mpg (combined) is achievable, but put your foot down and this figure soon decreases.
