Range: 760 miles
PROS: Impressive build quality, good looks, good fuel economy
CONS: Harsh ride, poor body control, limited rear legroom
The Allure HDi comes with Peugeot's 1.6-litre diesel engine which does a decent job of hauling the 3008 along. It develops 112bhp and 199lb-ft of torque so it's not fast - 0-62mph takes a pedestrian 13.6 seconds - but it's a smooth, quiet engine and makes the 3008 very relaxing to drive.
Sadly, handling is where the 3008 falls down. The steering is over-assisted and the car pitches and wallows through the bends. The ride is also very firm but refinement is excellent thanks to the smooth engine and good sound insulation.
The 3008 is surprisingly good looking and although it has Peugeot's ubiquitous 'grinning mouth' grille, it actually works quite well. The interior is tastefully appointed too and the overall feeling is one of high quality.
You get a good amount of equipment thrown in as standard too with alloys, climate control, electric windows and mirrors, cruise control, rear parking sensors and a CD player with MP3 connectivity. Bluetooth and sat-nav will set you back £735 for the pair and leather seats cost a further £1050.
The rear seats are a bit short of legroom but you get a very large boot - 512-litres with the rear seats up and 1604-litres with the seats folded down.
The 3008 should also be very safe and scored the full five star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests.
Peugeot have a bit of a dodgy reputation for reliability. However, the 3008 feels very well put together for a Peugeot and is offered with a 3 year/60,000 mile warranty.
The 3008 Allure HDi is very reasonably priced at £21,795 and offers very low running costs thanks to its efficient diesel engine. CO2 emissions of 135g/km mean low road tax costs under VED band E and a combined fuel economy figure of 53.3mpg means that trips to pumps should be relatively infrequent.
