CONS: Steep depreciation, mumsy image
The Allure HDi 150 is fitted with a 2.0-litre diesel engine and it's superb. It's a little coarse under heavy acceleration but it has plenty of guts, producing 150bhp and 250lb-ft of torque. This translates into a sub-10 second 0-62mph time and a top speed of 127mph.
This model is fitted with Peugeot's impressive Dynamic Roll Control which improves the ride and handling beyond all recognition. The ride is soft and comfortable and there is very little body roll through the bends. Add the Pug's excellent refinement and comfy cabin into the equation and you're left with a superb family car. Very Impressive.
Despite its slightly naff 'family' image, the 3008 is a surprisingly good looking car. The interior is also very nice thanks to some neat design decisions and the whole thing is well fastened together and made from quality plastics.
The amount of kit included as standard is a bit disappointing given that this is one of the priciest models in the range but you do get alloys, air-con, leccy windows and mirrors, cruise control, rear parking sensors and CD player with MP3 connectivity. The omission of Bluetooth from the standard kit list is a bit of a disappointment but it can be specced for £735 with sat-nav. Leather seats will cost you £1230.
The 3008 should be very safe and was awarded the full five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests in 2009.
Peugeot have an iffy reputation for reliability and were ranked close to the bootom of the manufacturer's table in the 2011 J D Power Survey. However, the 3008 feels very well put together of a Peugeot and is offered with a 3 year/60,000 mile warranty.
There's a lack of legroom in the rear seats but the 3008 more than makes up for this with its enormous boot which offers 512-litres of space with the rear seats up and 1604-litres with the seats down.
The 3008 Active HDi is priced from a very reasonable £21,345 and should be cheap to run. You should get 52.3mpg (combined) and CO2 emissions of 142g/km mean relatively low tax costs under VED band F.
