The Peugeot 3008 is a crossover which has a lot to offer the modern family, and there is no doubt that it is a car which can offer a comfortable cabin that on the whole has plenty of space, and a good boot too. The driving experience may not be the most exciting, and although the automatic gearbox does give reasonable performance it is still a drop from the equivalent manual version of the 3008.

PROS:  The interior is very comfortable and offers plenty of space and also benefits from some very versatile features, while the engine still offers reasonably good performance for an automatic.

CONS:  The one weakness in the spacious cabin is that the knee room in the rear is a little limited, and the handling isn’t as good as many of its rivals.

Behind the Wheel

There are a number of positives when driving the 3008, and it is a car that doesn’t always handle like the big vehicle it really is, with the light steering particularly good to drive in urban areas. However, it is still a little too light on twisty roads, and although the engine is quite good, it doesn’t quite respond as well as some other vehicles in the class. The driving position is high enough to give a good view of the road ahead, and the seat offers plenty of adjustment to help people to get the most comfortable position.

The engine performance from the 2.0 litre diesel engine is quite good, with acceleration from 0-62mph happening in 10.2 seconds. The top speed of 127mph is also fairly good and is more than enough for driving on the motorway, and while the cabin is generally fairly refined even when driving at speed, the diesel engine can be heard when it is working hard.

Looks & Equipment

The front end of the Peugeot 3008 doesn’t do much to disguise the fact that it is a big car, and the large criss-cross chrome grille will not be to everyone’s taste. Despite this, the car does have some nice lines, and the boot door has been designed with some lights mounted on it, balancing looks and practicality well. Alloy wheels are included as standard, and the large centre console really does feel good and puts the driver at the heart of what is happening in the car.

The 3008 does come with a reasonable level of equipment considering that this is only the second of four levels of trim. Bluetooth connectivity and a hands free phone kit will be welcome to those looking to keep in touch on the move, and the CD stereo offers a good entertainment experience. In the cabin air conditioning and cruise control help to make the driving experience easy and comfortable.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

Inside the cabin the 3008 does generally have plenty of space, with plenty of headroom in the back, but it is slightly limited around the knees for taller players. The boot is excellent, and the back seats do fold flat or can be split for a combination of seats and space. Peugeot do not have the best reputation for reliability, but the 3008 has had quite a good start so far.

The 3008 is also a very safe car, having been awarded five stars in the Euro NCAP safety tests. It does come with a comprehensive range of airbags, including the curtain airbag to look after the passengers in the back of the car. It can also boast a good range of driving aids to help keep this big car stable and under control.

Value for Money

This version of the 3008 does have a fairly hefty list price of £22,545, but those looking to cut down on the price may want to look at the smaller diesel engine or at a manual version.

The fuel economy of the 3008 isn’t particularly impressive, and naturally takes a hit because of the automatic gearbox, delivering an average 43.5mpg. The insurance group is fairly competitive meaning that premiums shouldn’t be too high, and the practicality means that it is likely to hold its value more successfully than some other Peugeot models. This car comes with a three year warranty and a one year membership of the AA.
