CarSite Verdict:  3.5/5
The 3008 is a great car, offering superb practicality, good looks and impressive build quality. However, we'd plump for the cheaper Allure HDi 150 - this model might have 13bhp more than the 150 but it is slower and less economical thanks to its automatic gearbox.

PROS:  Handles well, looks good, should be reliable

CONS:  Higher running costs than the HDi 150, steep depreciation

Behind the Wheel

The 2.0-litre diesel engine fitted to the Allure HDi 163 is very good indeed and produces 163bhp and 250lb-ft of torque. It is fitted with an automatic gearbox which, while good, saps some of the power from the engine and, as such, the HDi 163 is half a second slower to 62mph than the less powerful HDi 150, taking 10.2 seconds. Top speed is 127mph.

The 3008 handles very well indeed thanks to the fitment of Peugeot's Dynamic Rolls Control which improves both the ride and handling. Overall refinement is also superb.

Looks & Equipment

The 3008 cuts a handsome profile and has some neat design cues which suit the car well, making it an attractive vehicle. The interior is also very nice - stylish, well made and with a quality feel.

Considering that this is the top-of-the-range model, Peugeot could have included a bit more standard kit. You do get alloys, climate control, leccy windows and mirrors, cruise control, rear parking sensors and CD player with MP3 connectivity as standard. Bluetooth can be specced for £735 with sat-nav. Leather seats will cost you £1050.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

Peugeot don't have an unblemished reputation when it comes to reliability but the 3008 feels very well put together of a Peugeot and is offered with a 3 year/60,000 mile warranty.

Euro NCAP awarded the 3008 five stars in its crash tests and the car comes fitted with a good range of safety features which should make it a very safe place to be.

There's a lack of legroom in the rear seats but the 3008 more than makes up for this with its enormous boot which offers 512-litres of space with the rear seats up and 1604-litres with the seats down.

Value for Money

The 3008 Allure HDi 163 FAP is the most expensive model in the range at £23,995 and many buyers will be tempted by the cheaper models, especially considering the mediocre level of standard kit.

This is not the most economical model in the 3008 range, managing just 42.8mpg (combined). Road tax will be a bit pricey too under VED band H thanks to CO2 emissions of 172g/km.
