CarSite Verdict:  2.5/5
The 207 HDi offers extremely good fuel consumption but not much else. The old Peugeot is thoroughly outclassed by almost everything else on the market. The good news is that if you really want a small Peugeot, the new 208 comes out later this year. However, the 207 is a poor choice and there are much better cars on the market.

PROS:  Excellent fuel economy, good looks, decent performance.

CONS:  High levels of wind and road noise, not as good as its rivals.

Behind the Wheel

With a top speed of 113 mph this is a decent model which offers strong performance credentials. In terms of acceleration, the car can travel from 0-62 mph in 12.9 seconds which is more than reasonable for a car of this class. The four cylinder diesel engine provides 92bhp with 161lb-ft of torque.

In terms of refinement, the engine is unfortunately noisy and poor cabin insulation means that a lot of this noise infiltrates the interior with noise from the wind and road also audible.

The 207 offers an effortless driving experience with supple and well-controlled performance on the road. The steering is light at low speeds but weighs up as the speed is increased.

Looks & Equipment

The 207 Allure 1.6 HDi is equipped with features like air conditioning and Bluetooth alongisde power steering, electric front windows, remote central locking and alloy wheels.

The classy cabin is one of the high point of the 207 Allure and there are plenty of soft-touch plastics and metallic inserts used to give it a high-quality finish. The top-spec Allure model offers plush leather seats and standard alloys wheels, tinted rear windows, a sports interior pack and curtain airbags to enhance the features on offer.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

Overall, the car offers ample room for drivers and passengers although rear legroom is a little tight. Headroom is more than sufficient however and the rear seats are more than suitable for children or smaller passengers. The boot capacity is a little small for a car of this class with 270 litres on offer when the seats are in position but, as a small car, this is to be expected.

There is plenty of adjustment in the seats and steering column and this means finding a comfortable driving position should be easy. Unfortunately the suspension is a little below par and the high level of noise infiltration within the cabin makes the interior less comfortable than it could be.

The 207 has driver, passenger and front side airbags all fitted as standard.

Value for Money

Peugeot 207 is quite an economical car but it’s not that cheap at £15,295 and residual values aren’t very strong. Running costs are pretty reasonably however and the car falls into group 9 for insurance and price band C for road tax due to carbon emissions of 113g/km. Moreover, the diesel engine is particularly frugal achieving fuel efficiency of 65.7 mpg and making it ideal for families.
