The Peugeot 207 1.4 is not exactly cheap but its price is well-compensated by its well-built interior and its offer of a dynamic drive. It is definitely an improvement on its predecessor but it is pretty much an average hatchback in terms of looks, equipment and general handling. Fuel efficiency isn't too bad but the cabin is fairly small and there's not a great deal of boot space either.

PROS:  The Peugeot 207 Active 1.4 8v 5dr is well made and certainly looks good. Its cabin is spacious and this version is smarter-looking than the entry-level version. It has been designed with safety in mind. It’s easy to drive in and about town and quite capable on the motorway.

CONS:  Though the 1.4 engine is quite capable, it is a bit slow. The Peugeot 207 Active is not exactly cheap when compared to some of its rivals. Equipment is scarce for this model.

Behind the Wheel

Peugeot 207’s performance on the road is quite satisfactory. It’s light and nippy to drive in and around town, more so during traffic. The ride is smooth and yielding while the car’s body roll is controlled even on bends and twisty roads.

The 5-speed manual gearbox is a bit vague during changes and the brakes seem to be weak. The 1.4 engine lacks punch but the initial light steering makes for an easy drive, gathering weight as speed increases. The ride is comfortable enough but the suspension is quite firm that sharp bumps are felt. Engine refinement is fine. Wind and road noise are barely audible.

It’s quite slow as it reaches 62mph in 15.7s but it is capable of hitting a top speed of 106 mph. The 1360cc 4-cylinder, 8-valve engine produces 75 bhp at 5400 rpm and develops a torque of 90 lb-ft at 3300 rpm.

Looks & Equipment

The Peugeot 207 Active 1.4 8v 5dr is not exactly brimming with standard fits. It has the standard power steering, air-conditioning, electric and heated mirrors, MP3/iPod connectivity and foglights up front. Available cost options are electronic stability control, metallic paint and cruise control. Sat nav and automatic transmission are not even cost options.

The cabin of the Peugeot 207 Active 1.4 5dr is classy. There are some plastics used in the interior but the finishing is tastefully done. The dashboard is ergonomically designed and is fitted with intuitive-to-use buttons and switches. The steering wheel is highly adjustable but the lever is a tad fiddly. The door mirrors are oddly positioned and shaped that it takes time to get used to them.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Peugeot 207 Active 1.4 8v 5dr has a refined and frugal engine, good looks and a spacious interior. The driving is experience is safe if not particularly fun. It scored a perfect five in the Euro NCAP crash test for occupant safety and 4/5 for child safety. It has the required dual front airbags, side and curtain airbags, 3-point seatbelts and Isofix child seat mounts. Brake system includes ABS and electronic stability program is a cost option.

Security features inclusive are deadlocks, immobiliser, remote and central locking, deadlocks and automatic locking system that is activated when the car reaches a speed of 6 mph.

Boot space has a 270-litre capacity. The load space could be bigger but the process of taking out the rear seats’ base is not easy. The 207 is a small family car and is quite spacious but the rear seats could do with a bit more legroom. The glovebox has sub-compartments that are very practical. The largest of these sub-compartments is a cool box.

Value for Money

This car is a good all-rounder but the Ford Fiesta looks better, is more refined, delivers a better drive and is more spacious. The Peugeot 207 Active 1.4 has a combined fuel economy of 44.8mpg.

The model is fairly competitively priced but the diesel version offers better value for money and residual values are not particularly good.
