CarSite Verdict:  4/5
The 650i M Sport is a very fast and luxurious coupe. With dazzling performance and a luxurious interior, it really is a superb car to drive. However, the whole driving experience feels a little disconnected and running costs will be extortionate.

PROS:  Sublime engine, impressive performance credentials, good looks

CONS:  High purchase price, high running costs, uninvolving driving experience

Behind the Wheel

The 650i M Sport's 4.4-litre V8 produces 407bhp and 442lb-ft of torque. 0-62mph takes 4.9 seconds and the car has to be electronically restrained at 155mph.

At low speeds the ride is quite firm but the car has great grip and with the optional Adaptive Drive in Sport mode, there is virtually no body roll. The eight speed auto 'box is superb and the steering is sharp and crisp.

The V8 engine makes a great noise but there is very little noise from the wind or road, even at speed.

Looks & Equipment

The interior of the 6 Series is tastefully finished with high quality materials and soft touch plastics. The whole thing feels very well screwed together.

The M Sport trim comes with heated leather seats, metallic paint, power steering, stability control, cruise control, climate control, alloy wheels, stereo, MP3 connectivity, rear parking sensors, satellite navigation and Bluetooth as standard.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

BMW have an exemplary track record when it comes to reliability and the 6 Series should prove to be very dependable - it certainly feels well made.

The rear seats are a little short on room and adults can only realistically use them on very shirt trips. The boot, however, is most capacious for a car of this type and a ski flap also makes loading items like skis possible without folding the rear seats down.

The 6 Series should also be very safe thanks to a raft of driver aids and safety features.

Value for Money

At £71,840, the 650i M Sport is an expensive proposition. It will also be pricey to run thanks to CO2 emissions of 246g/km which mean the 650i falls under VED band L. Fuel economy is also poor and you'll only achieve 26.6mpg on the combined cycle.

However, thanks to the desirability of the BMW roundle, the 650i will hold its value very well.
