The 650i M Sport's V8 delivers 407bhp and 442lb-ft of torque at 1750-4500rpm, reaching 62mph in 5.0 seconds with a limited top speed of 155mph.
The 8-speed automatic gearbox is superb although the ride is a little choppy at low speeds. The car has great grip and, with the optional Adaptive Drive in Sport mode, there is virtually no body roll. Removing the roof has not dented the 6 Series' handling capabilities.
The new 6 Series is a much better looking car than its predecessor and is much more tastefully designed. The cabin is also superb thanks to high quality materials and feels very well put together.
The iDrive system is much easier to get to grips with than before and the M Sport trim comes with an impressive amount of standard kit.
Heated leather seats, metallic paint, power steering, stability control, cruise control, climate control, alloy wheels, stereo, MP3 connectivity, rear parking sensors, satellite navigation and Bluetooth all come as standard.
BMW make very reliable cars indeed and there is no reason to believe that the 6 Series Convertible will be any different. The car is also supplied with a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty.
Safety shouldn't be an issue either. Euro NCAP has yet to test any incarnation of the new 6 Series but rest assured that a five star rating is in the offing thanks to an impressive level of safety equipment and a number of driver aids.
The 6 Series Convertible is inevitably less practical than the coupe and the boot only holds 300-litres. The rear seats are also very cramped and are only really suitable for children.
The 650i M Sport model is priced at £77,715 and has high running costs thanks to its thirsty V8 engine. Fuel economy is 26.4mpg on the combined cycle and and CO2 emissions of 249g/km put the car under VED band L.
The M Sport is an unnecessary step up from the SE trim as it comes with the same amount of equipment and the only additions with the M Sport are a few exterior styling tweaks and the addition of sport suspension.
