0-62 Mph: 5.5 secs

PROS: Great performance, good looks, impressive level of standard kit
CONS: Very expensive to run. The M Sport trim is much more expensive than the SE trim, but offers few improvements.
The 640i M Sport's straight-six engine develops 320bhp and 332lb-ft of torque. This means that 0-62mph takes a swift 5.7 seconds and the 640i has to be electronically limited to 155mph.
However, the 640i feels very heavy and cumbersome - it is not a sports car. The driver feels disconnected from the driving experience and although this makes for a very comfortable ride, some drivers may bemoan the lack of driving feel.
Wind and road noise are well hushed and the engine is barely audible in the cabin.
The 6 Series is much better looking than its predecessor. Gone are the awkward angles of the old car - the new model looks altogether more understated and handsome.
The iDrive system is also much improved, offering greater usability.
The M Sport convertible comes with heated leather seats, metallic paint, power steering, stability control, cruise control, climate control, alloy wheels, stereo, MP3 connectivity, rear parking sensors, satellite navigation and Bluetooth as standard.
Whilst there is plenty of space up front in the 6 Series Convertible, the rear seats are a little cramped and are only suitable for children. For the class, the boot is fairly sizeable with 300 litres on offer with the roof up.
BMW have a very good track record when it comes to reliability and the 6 Series Convertible is supplied with an unlimited three year warranty.
Although Euro NCAP have yet to crash a 6 Series, the car should be very safe and is likely to score the full five stars.
The 640i M Sport costs £70,110, making it one of the cheaper 6 Series Convertibles.
Running costs will also be a little steep - you'll get 35.8mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions of 185g/km put the 640i under VED band I.
However, the BMW badge is highly desirable and the 6 Series benefits from extremely strong resale values.
