The new Volvo XC40 has kicked off the Geneva Motor Show by lifting the 2018 European Car of the Year title.
As a result, every model in Volvo’s current SUV line up has been named Car of the Year in either Europe or North America, and the XC40 adds the title to the Car of the Year accolade recently awarded by leading automotive publication What Car?
The XC40 has already passed 20,000 sales mark since its European and United States release, with demand expected to surge after the model’s upcoming release in China.
The XC40 is the first model to include Volvo Cars’ new subscription service, Care by Volvo. The scheme offers car access via a monthly flat-fee subscription rather than ownership, with the company saying it is designed to make having a car as transparent, easy and hassle free as having a mobile phone.
Features of the XC40 include Pilot Assist system, City Safety, Run-off Road Protection and Mitigation, Cross Traffic Alert with brake support, and a 360° camera. Inside are functional storage spaces in the doors and under the seats, a special space for phones which includes inductive charging, a foldout hook for small bags, and removable waste bin in the tunnel console.
Last year Volvo announced a commitment to electrify all cars launched from 2019, and both hybrid and pure electric powertrain options for the XC40 will be added in due course.
