Volkswagen are celebrating victory after the Passat Estate Alltrack was crowned Tow Car of the Year by The Caravan Club.
Of 47 cars in the contest, the VW Passat Estate Alltrack claimed honours in both its class and category as well as the overall award.
The field of entrants were subjected to fierce tests of their towing capability at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, as well as being evaluated for their practicality, value for money, and ability to meet the needs of caravan enthusiasts. The test route included narrow country lanes, hill starts, reversing tests, and a high-speed bowl test.
The winners in the seven separate price classes were the Citroën C4 Cactus Rip Curl BlueHDi 100, the Peugeot 308 SW Active BlueHDi 120, the Škoda Superb SE L Executive 2.0TDI 150PS, the Volkswagen Golf Estate Alltrack 2.0TDI 4MOTION 150 PS, the Volkswagen Passat Estate Alltrack 2.0TDI SCR 4MOTION 150 PS, the Mercedes-Benz E220d AMG Line Saloon, and the BMW X5 xDrive40d M Sport.
The victors in the two weight categories for all-wheel drive vehicles were the BMW X5 xDrive40d and the Volkswagen Passat Estate Alltrack, the latter claiming the overall title of The Caravan Club Tow Car of the Year when the results were announced at a ceremony at London’s Royal Automobile Club last week.
