The Volvo S90 has been crowned Production Car Design of the Year 2015.

Presented by Car Design News, the premium saloon was chosen for the accolade by a panel of 18 professional car designers from across the globe.

The S90 beat off competition from a 20-strong list of contenders to claim the title, which Car Design News Editor Owen Ready attributed to “its priority of clear, calm design over the ‘styling entertainment’ that has been plaguing the industry for too long”.

“Our use of high-end materials, classic proportions and controlled surfacing reflects our intention to forge our own path.  We don’t want to fit in, we want to stand out,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President of Design at Volvo Car Group, after collecting the award at a ceremony in Geneva.
