Volvo has revealed the first images of the production-ready version of the S60.
The car is based on the S60 Polestar concept which was shown at the LA Motor Show last year.
The high-performance S60 Polestar will initially only be available in the Australian market; however, Volvo claims that it if demand for the car is sufficient, it could be offered in other markets.
Underneath the bonnet, the Polestar is fitted with a 3.0-litre straight-six engine which develops 350bhp and more than 370lb-ft of torque. While this means that the production car is significantly less powerful than the 500bhp+ concept car shown in LA, it also means that the Volvo churns out more torque than two of its major rivals -- the Audi RS4 and the BMW M3.
0-62mph is said to take 4.9 seconds and the Polestar is electronically limited to a top speed of 155mph.
To achieve these impressive performance figures, Volvo has added a new Borg Warner turbo, a new intercooler and a new 2.5-inch full-flow stainless steel exhaust to the standard T6 engine fitted to the regular S60.
The power is sent to all four wheels via an automatic gearbox, which not only includes launch control, but has also been tweaked to give faster shifts.
Volvo has also been busy uprating the S60's chassis and suspension, adding beefier springs, better shocks, new anti-roll bars and a carbon-fibre strut brace. The Polestar also gets special 19-inch alloy wheels and Brembo brakes.
A new front splitter, rear diffuser and rear spoiler help to liven up the Polestar's exterior and improve aerodynamic performance, while on the inside the car gets a Polestar gear knob, door sills and trim.
Only 100 examples will be built initially, and the first Polestars will be delivered to Australian customers in June.
