Maserati has confirmed that the Alfieri concept, which was revealed at this year's Geneva Motor Show, will be going into production in 2016.
Maserati Alfieri concept revealed in Geneva
The Alfieri, which will also be available in convertible form from 2017, will be based on a tweaked version of the platform which currently underpins the Ghibli and Quattroporte, and will provide the Italian firm with a rival to the likes of the Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-Type.
Maserati has also confirmed the engine line-up for the new Alfieri, which will consist of three iterations of the same 3.0-litre V6 petrol unit, producing 404bhp, 444bhp and 513bhp. The first of these models will be fitted with rear-wheel drive as standard, while the two more powerful versions will be available with all-wheel drive only.
In addition to this, Maserati has confirmed a replacement for the current GranTurismo will be hitting dealer forecourts in 2018, coming with a 3.8-litre V8 with more than 552bhp. There will also be a new SUV, dubbed the Levante, which will go into production next year.
The new model line-up is part of Maserati's plans to boost its worldwide sales to 75,000 units by 2018 -- an increase of nearly 60,000 units over its 2013 sales figures.
