This is the new Mercedes GLA 45 AMG Concept, a hot version of Merc's new compact SUV, which has gone on show at the Los Angeles Motor Show.
The GLA 45 AMG is powered by the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine you get in the A45 AMG and the CLA 45 AMG, producing 335bhp and 332lb-ft of torque. The power is sent through a seven-speed double-clutch gearbox to Mercedes' AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
Although no official performance figures have yet been released, Mercedes claims that the GLA 45 AMG is good for 0-62mph in "under five seconds".
Outside, the concept gets 21-inch AMG forged alloy wheels painted in matt black with red detailing and high performance brakes with red callipers. A large gloss black front splitter is also included alongside a huge rear spoiler, aprons and side skirts. There's also a smattering of rather substantial AMG decals, leaving the casual observer in no doubt as to the car's impressive turn of speed.
Mercedes has yet to officially confirm whether or not the GLA 45 AMG is destined for production; however, given that production models have already been spied testing at the Nurburgring, it seems pretty much a certainty. We're expecting the first models to go on sale in the UK early next year.
