Volkswagen is cutting the price of its new Golf R Cabriolet by a whopping £5,600, following negative press feedback surrounding the car's price.

When the Golf R Cabriolet was launched earlier this year Volkswagen set a starting price of £38,770 -- £8,000 more than the next most expensive Golf Cabriolet and more than £1,000 more than an entry-level Porsche Boxster.

The new price applies immediately and if you're one of the six -- yes, six -- customers to have slapped down the full £38k for the car, Volkswagen promises to refund the difference.

As a result of price cut, Volkswagen has revised its predicted sales figures, estimating that it will sell more than 160 cars rather than the 20 previously thought.
