Volkswagen has released the first official details of its new Golf R Cabriolet, the fastest convertible Golf ever made.
Under the bonnet, the R Cabriolet gets a 2.0-litre four-pot engine developing 261bhp. This translates into a 0-62mph time of 6.4 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph.
On the outside, the R Cabriolet gets a gloss-black grille, gloss-black mirrors, LED daytime-running lights, side sill extensions, a gloss-black rear diffuser, chrome-tipped exhaust pipes and smoked LED rear lights.
The car also sits 25mm closer to the road than the standard Golf Cabriolet and is offered with either 18- or 19-inch wheels finished in a choice of Sterling Silver or High-gloss Black. The brake callipers are painted in gloss-black and feature the 'R' logo.
On the inside, the R Cabriolet gets four individual sports seats trimmed in 'Vienna Cool Leather' -- whatever that is -- with 'R' logos stitched into the headrests. The steering wheel, handbrake and gear lever are all trimmed in leather, while the doors and dashboard feature aluminium detailing.
Prices for the new Golf R Cabriolet will start from £38,770 when it goes on sale in the spring.
