The Volkswagen Arteon was the big winner at the 2019 Tow Car Awards.

The Arteon not only won the 1,550-1,699kg weight class, but also collected the overall prize for best tow car.
The judging panel were impressed by the Arteon’s towing performance in a variety of conditions, and its low gross weight of 2,170kg which means a B category driving licence holder can use it to legally tow a caravan weighing up to 1,330kg.

Prices start from £34,025 on-the-road for the 1.5-litre TSI EVO petrol-powered Elegance model.  The 2.0-litre TDI SCR 150 engine used in the model evaluated by the Tow Car Awards panel delivers 50.4 mpg on the combined cycle, and achieved 29.1 mpg during the tow car test hauling a caravan weighing 85% of the Arteon’s 1,643 kg unladen weight.

The Arteon’s victory adds to Volkswagen’s glittering history in the Tow Car Awards, with the Passat Estate having taken home the overall award in 2007, 2011 and 2015, the Polo winning the Ultralight category last year, and the Amarok collecting the Pick-up category award in 2017.
