Volkswagen’s brand new Arteon has made an immediate impression by earning full marks for safety in Euro NCAP testing.
Euro NCAP gave the Arteon five stars, and commended its pedestrian protection performance in particular, where it became the highest scoring executive vehicle in the category to date thanks in no small part to the standard inclusion of an emergency braking system.
The Arteon scored 96% for Adult Occupant Protection, 85% in both the Child Occupant Protection and Pedestrian Protection category, and 82% in the Safety Assist category.
The latter category tested the Arteon’s numerous standard safety systems, such as seatbelt fastening reminders for all seats, cruise control, Front Assist area monitoring system with emergency braking function, and Lane Assist.
The new Arteon was launched in Volkswagen’s domestic German market in March, and also includes airbags for the driver and front-seat passenger - including front-seat passenger airbag deactivation and a knee airbag on the driver's side - as well as a head airbag system for the front and rear outer seat passengers, front side airbags, safety-optimised head restraints that minimise the risk of whiplash, and the proactive occupant protection system which recognises and responds to critical situations with increased potential for an accident.
