Suzuki has announced that they have achieved not one but TWO nominations for the 2017 World Car of the Year awards.
Both come in the newly created Urban Car category for vehicles less than four metres long, suitable for everyday use in the urban environment, sold on two continents before the Spring 2017 deadline, and with a reputation as something of a small car expert the manufacturer has seen both its Baleno hatchback and new Ignis Mini Crossover models have been put forward to the judging panel of 73 automotive industry journalists.
Suzuki introduced the Baleno to the European market this summer, debuting the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology which includes a lithium–ion battery and Integrated Start Generator bringing emissions down to just 94g/km of CO2. The model is also available with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder Boosterjet turbocharged engine offering CO2 emissions of 105g/km and 62.7mpg combined fuel consumption.
Already launched in Suzuki’s domestic Japanese market, the new Ignis Mini Crossover will go on sale here from the start of 2017. Powered by a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine, the Ignis Mini Crossover will be available with the option of four wheel drive, and will also offer optional SHVS technology that lowers CO2 emissions to 97g/km. Safety features include stereo distance monitoring cameras forming the basis of Dual Camera Brake Support, Lane Departure Warning, and Weaving Alert systems.
