The all-new Subaru WRX has made its world debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show, sparking rumours that the model could be coming to the UK.
The production version of the WRX looks broadly similar to the WRX concept we saw earlier this year, with Subaru's trademark hexagonal grille, 'hawkeye' headlamps, a rear diffuser with integrated exhausts and a lip spoiler.
Underneath, the WRX is fitted with a 2.0-litre boxer engine which Subaru claims offers much improved performance over the outgoing 2.5-litre unit. The new engine produces 268bhp and 258lb-ft of torque and is claimed to offer improved environmental performance.
Thee engine is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission as standard, with a newly-developed CVT with an eight-speed shifting mode available as an option.
Subaru has optimised the WRX's body for high performance handling, using ultra-high tensile steel in the car's construction for stiffness and carefully-tuned suspension for optimum cornering ability. Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system comes as standard along with a range of electronic aids, including Vehicle Dynamics Control and Active Torque Vectoring.
On the outside, US-spec cars will get 17-inch alloy wheels and LED front and rear lights, while on the inside a new flat-bottomed steering wheel, sports seats with silver WRX logos and a 3.5-inch LCD colour display all come as standard.
The Subaru WRX goes on sale in the USA and Japan in late-2014. We'll have to wait and see whether Subaru brings the car to the UK.
