The all-new Subaru Levorg sports tourer concept has made its world debut at the Tokyo Motor Show this week, hinting at a new car which will go on sale in Japan next year prior to a possible UK launch.
As we found out when Subaru released the first teaser images of the new model, the name Levorg comes from a contraction of the words Legacy, Revolution and Touring.
The Levorg will be powered by a new 1.6-litre direct-injection turbocharged petrol boxer engine as well as a similar 2.0-litre unit. The smaller of the two engines will be good for 168bhp and 184lb-ft of torque, while the 2.0-litre will develops 296bhp and 295lb-ft of torque.
Both engines will be mated to Subaru's Lineartronic CVT gearbox which on the 2.0-litre model features an eight-speed shifting mode which Subaru claims delivers either a more relaxed or a more sporty drive.
The Levorg also previews a number of new safety technologies which will filter down to other production models in the future, including Hazard Avoidance Assist, which provides steering assistance if an imminent collision is detected, and Pre-Collision Reverse Throttle Management, which restricts engine output if the system detects sharp and unexpected acceleration in reverse gear. Subaru's new EyeSight driver assist system is also included.
