The Skoda Citigo has been crowned the UK’s Safest Used First Car 2017 by Co-op Insurance after a joint study conducted in partnership with safety specialists Thatcham Research.
The Skoda Citigo’s high levels of safety equipment and strong design helped it lift the inaguaral award aimed at helping newly qualified drivers choose the right first car. The award shortlist was restricted to city cars or superminis boasting a five-star Euro NCAP rating and CO2 emissions of under 120g/km or lower, and had be widely available on the used car market for under £5,000 a low insurance group rating. The Skoda Citigo was determined to lead the way once all these key factors had been taken into account.
The Citigo has won numerous since launching in 2012, including Auto Express Car of the Year. All Citigo models have front, head and side airbags as standard. SE trim upwards comes equipped with ESC stability control as standard.
Used examples of the Citigo are available through Skoda’s Approved Used network, where all models come with 12 months roadside assistance, 12 months warranty and a 30-day/1,000-mile exchange offer.
James Hillon, Director of Products at Co-op Insurance, said “The fact that almost a third of young drivers have been involved in a road traffic incident in the first six months of driving highlights just how important it is to have a safe vehicle. You cannot put a price on safety. We want to intercept and engage young drivers on the importance of putting safety over price when purchasing a first car.”
