SEAT has opened the order books for its new Leon Ecomotive, the most efficient version of the Leon yet.
Launched last month at the Frankfurt Motor Show alongside the new Leon ST estate, the Ecomotive is available in all three body styles -- SC, five-door and ST.
The power comes from a 1.6-litre TDI diesel engine which develops 108bhp. The power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox whose ratios have been selected to maximise fuel efficiency.
To improve aerodynamic performance, the Ecomotive is 15mm lower than the standard Leon and features rear and side spoilers and a new radiator grille. Low rolling resistance tyres come as standard, as does SEAT's Energy Recovery system which captures and stores brake energy otherwise lost as heat, using it to power electrical systems. Start-stop is also fitted as standard.
As a result of all this eco-tweaking, the Ecomotive emits just 87g/km of CO2 which means that while it does not meet the new, stricter London Congestion Charge rules, it is entitled to free road tax. SEAT also claims that the Ecomotive is capable of a combined 85.6mpg.
Prices start from £19,360 for the three-door SC, £19,660 for the five-door and £20,485 for the ST estate.
