Volvo has unveiled the new XC60 at the Geneva Motor Show.
The new model replaces the previous generation XC60, which has sold almost a million units worldwide over it nine-year lifespan and now accounts for nearly a third of Volvo’s overall global sales.
Volvo plan to build on that popularity by making the new XC60 one of the safest cars on the market. A comprehensive City Safety package now includes Steer Assist , while a new safety system called Oncoming Lane Mitigation helps to mitigate head-on collisions. Volvo’s Blind Spot Indication System also utilises the Steer Assist system to reduce the risk of lane-changing collisions. Pilot Assist, a semi-autonomous driver-assistance system which steers, accelerates, and brakes on well-marked roads up to 80mph is available as an optional extra.
Top spec models will be powered by a 407bhp T8 Twin Engine petrol plug-in hybrid system, giving the premium SUV a 0-62mph time of just 5.3 seconds. Other power plants include a 190bhp D4 diesel, a 235bhp D5 diesel, a 254bhp T5 petrol, and the T6 petrol which, with turbo and superchargers, produces 320bhp.
On the inside, a new CleanZone four-zone climate control system removes harmful pollutants and particles, while the infotainment system has Volvo On Call app receiving graphical updates. Smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also available.
UK launch date a pricing details are yet to be confirmed, but production of the new XC60 is expecting to start next month at Volvo’s Torslanda facility in Sweden.
