Land Rover has announced a new addition to its Discovery line up.
A new model line will join the Land Rover Discovery range, called the SVX. Developed by Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations team, the SVX will be powered exclusively by a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine producing almost 520bhp. The SVX specification includes a number of suspension modifications for enhanced off-road capability, with a Discovery model-first addition of Hydraulic Active Roll Control to increase wheel articulation and body control. Approach, departure and breakover angles have been enhanced by raising both the lightweight aluminium monocoque architecture and the four-corner air suspension system. The SVX also has larger 815mm diameter 275/55 R20 Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tyres on forged aluminium alloy wheel, and the tyres’ increased side-wall height reduces contact pressure and improves performance on soft surfaces while its specially-designed tread pattern improves grip in muddy conditions.
The Discovery SVX also has active centre and electronic rear locking differentials and incorporates traction control to maximise grip on all surfaces. The Discovery SVX’s eight-speed Automatic Transmission with twin-speed transfer box has benefitted from a series of software upgrades, including optimised Terrain Response 2, Hill Descent Control, Electronic Traction Control, Adaptive Dynamics, Dynamic Stability Control, All-Terrain Progress Control and variable ratio Electric Power-Assisted Steering.
Externally, the Discovery SVX preview model is finished in exclusive satin Tectonic Grey paint with contrasting exposed Rush Orange metal recovery eyes, unique front and rear bumpers, protective skid plates, an anti-glare bonnet finish and an integrated rear-mounted electric winch system. Further distinguishing features include Rush Orange internal accents, X logo perforations on the SVX branded seats, Narvik Black side vents with V8 badging, a Narvik Black Dynamic grille, Black roof rails and a roof-mounted unit with two additional light pods for improved low light visibility.
The Land Rover Discovery will make its debut at this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
