Mercedes has confirmed that the new twelve-cylinder version of the S-Class, the S65 AMG, will make its debut at next month's LA Motor Show.

Although Mercedes has yet to reveal any official details on the new car, the S65 AMG is rumoured to produce as much as 621bhp from its 6.0-litre V12 engine. The power will be sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed AMG speedshift gearbox.

Again, there are no official performance figures available at the moment; however, a 0-62mph time of around four seconds seems to be on the cards, along with an official combined mpg figure of around 25mpg.

The S65 AMG will slot into the S-Class range above the existing V8-powered S63 (pictured above) with which it is likely to share its exterior styling and alloy wheels. The S63's 5.4-litre twin-turbo V8 develops 577bhp, propelling the car from 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 155mph.
