Mazda are celebrating after receiving four nominations in the finals of the 2016 World Car Awards, more than any other manufacturer.
The all-new MX-5 and CX-3 models are in the running for the overall World Car of the Year crown, while both are also finalists in the World Car Design of the Year category. A panel of 73 leading automotive journalists will decide the outcome, with the winners announced at the New York International Motor Show in March.
Mazda CX-3 entered the market last summer, with a choice of SKYACTIV-G petrol and SKYACTIV-D diesel engines and Mazda’s MZD-Connect system with 7-inch colour touchscreen and Multimedia commander. In addition, CX-3 Sport Nav models boast Mazda’s Active Driving Display system with a segment first head-up display system.
The fourth generation Mazda MX-5 made its UK debut at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, and has already been crowned 2016 Japan Car of the Year, 2016 What Car? Best Convertible and 2015 Auto Express Roadster of the Year, and the nine model range has recently been expanded with the launch of the Mazda MX-5 Sport Recaro. Shorter, lower, and wider than its predecessor, the all-new MX-5 has its lowest centre of gravity yet, and with rear-wheel drive and 50:50 weight distribution it remains hugely popular with driving enthusiasts.
