Lexus has unveiled its all-new RC Coupe at the Tokyo Motor Show.
Two versions of the RC were revealed: the RC 350, which gets a 3.5-litre V6 engine mated to an eight-speed sequential gearbox, and the RC 300h hybrid, which comes with a 2.5-litre petrol engine coupled with a 141bhp electric motor.
The RC is essentially a stylized, more aggressive looking iteration of the IS but is 30mm wider, 35mm lower and 70mm shorter than the car on which it's based. The car's triangular headlamps are reminiscent of the LF-LC concept which was unveiled at last year's Detroit Motor Show, while both the front and rear lights use Lexus' corporate L design.
Two wheel designs are on offer too: 10-spoke 19-inch wheels and five-spoke 18-inch wheels. Both come finished in black, while the RC's bodywork is painted in red using a new painting process which Lexus claims gives "brighter and stronger contrasts through using multiple layers of clear and deeper-coloured coating."
On the inside there are just four seats, each of which has been made using an integrated foam construction similar to that used for racing seats. There's a seven-inch screen in the centre console which houses both the navigation and infotainment controls and, in true Lexus style, there's wood trim aplenty.
There's no word yet on when the RC Coupe will go on sale but a late-2014 launch seems likely. Full details and specifications will be released closer to the car's on-sale date.
