The new Hyundai IONIQ has earned the maximum five-star rating from independent vehicle safety organisation Euro NCAP after the latest round of crash testing.

The IONIQ went on European sale this year in hybrid and electric formats, with a plug-in hybrid to join the line up next year.

The IONIQ achieved top marks in the Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Pedestrian and Safety Assist categories thanks to its comprehensive package of standard active safety features including Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist and Smart Cruise Control.

Thomas A. Schmid, Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor Europe, said: “State-of-the-art active safety features are fitted as standard in all versions making the IONIQ one of the safest cars in its segment and a safe and accessible e-mobility choice for customers.”
