Fiat was one of the winners at the AM awards in Birmingham, with the Fiat 500 walking away with the accolade for the Used Car of the Year.

The award-winning Fiat 500 has been enjoyed a good reputation since its first UK launch in January 2008. With a starting price of £9,960 OTR for the 1.2 Pop, experts say the Fiat 500 represents outstanding value for money.

"Single handedly re-invigorating the Fiat brand since its introduction to the market in 2008, the popularity of the Fiat 500 has not waned, enjoying massive popularity on the used market," says Jeremy Bennett, editor at AM.

"Demand for the car is still strong, ensuring 500s only share brief encounters with dealer forecourts before being whisked away to customers looking for fun in a cute and funky little package," he continued.

Bennett added that with part-exchange values at £4,500 to £5,500 after three years, depending on the model, the 500 depreciates extremely slowly for a small car.

A wonderful success

Furthermore, Jonny Miller at Fiat Group Automobiles UK highlighted that the Fiat 500 has been a wonderful success story for the brand over the last four years or so, both as a new buy and as a used car

"Its 'must have' looks, reliability, character and fuel efficiency, have all helped to ensure its residual values are kept high, which is good news for owners and dealers," said Miller.

Fiat 500L

Recently, Fiat presented the first official images of the 500L, the new model which will have its world preview at the International Geneva Motor Show on 6 March this year.

With the L standing for 'Large', this new addition to the 500 range will be part of the brand's strategy of extending its offer by introducing models in a position to satisfy different types of customers.
