Audi has shown off its new 700bhp Sport Quattro concept on video for the first time, following the car's debut at last month's Frankfurt Motor Show.
Although it's unclear whether the Sport Quattro concept will ever reach production, it is thought to preview a production model which will not only top the Audi range, outdoing the R8 in the desirability stakes, but also act as the spiritual successor to the legendary Quattro rally car of the 1980s.
However, while the original Quattro was powered by a 2.2-litre straight-five engine, the Sport Quattro concept gets a 552bhp petrol V8 engine mated to a 147bhp electric motor. The total power output will be 690bhp and 590lb-ft of torque, giving the Sport Quattro a 0-62mph of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 189mph.
Audi claims that the Sport Quattro concept will be capable of travelling 31 miles on electric power alone, emitting just 59g/km of CO2 and returning a scarcely believable 113mpg.
