The 1798 cc engine works a treat and has great performance figures. The six speed manual gearbox adds to the smooth driving experience.
PROS: The CC 1.8 TSI 4dr boasts impressive performance figures, has great handling and is a highly practical car for four adults.
CONS: The Passat is not exactly fun to drive. Fuel consumption suffers and a return of 39.8 mpg makes it a relatively thirsty car. Five adults in the car might be a little ambitious.
The 1798 cc 16 valve engine turns out 158 bhp at 5,000 rpm and 185 lb ft of torque at 1,500 rpm.
A respectable 0-62 mph time of 8.6 seconds helps it reach a top speed of 138 mph.
The six speed gearbox works well with the 1798 cc engine, and the overall driving experience is smooth and comfortable.
This CC is perhaps a little conservative for some in the looks department, but it is by no means a bad looking car.
The standard equipment levels are on par with any car in its class. Power steering, alloy wheels, central locking, electric front windows and mirrors are standard fare. MP3 and Bluetooth connectivity enhance the cabin alongside satallite navigation as standard.
Cruise control is an extra £220, rear parking sensors are £385 and leather seats will cost £1575.
Although listed as a five seater, many adults may find it rather unaccommodating for a long journey. This is not to say the car is uncomfortable, it is anything but, however rear leg room maybe just a little compromising for five adults. For four, it is very comfortable.
The 565 litre boot should meet any families' needs, but the aforementioned five adults might struggle.
Standard driver and passenger plus side impact air bags are to be expected on such a car as is the factory fitted stability control. Security issues are covered with a factory fitted alarm and immobiliser.
All Passats come with the usual Volkswagen approved two year or 60,000 mile warranty.
The Passat costs £23,630 and comes with a fair bit of kit including satallite navigation and Bluetooth as standard.
The economy (at 39.8 mpg) is not as good asthe diesel engines and will cost a fair amount in fuel. The 165 g/km rate of CO2 emissions is not great for an average engine.
However, there is plenty of space offered with the coupe and it is a reasonably priced car.
