Toyota has released the first full images of its new Yaris Hybrid-R concept ahead of its debut at next week's Frankfurt Motor Show.

The new images mark the end of a slow reveal for Toyota's hot hybrid supermini, which was hinted at in a number of teaser images (here, here and here) last month.

As we've already told you, the Yaris Hybrid-R will be fitted with a 300bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine mated to two 60bhp electric motors, giving a total power output of 420bhp. Much of the Yaris Hybrid-R's hybrid technology has been gleaned from the Toyota TS030 Hybrid racing car, which competes in the World Endurance Championship.

What we didn't know, however, is that the Hybrid-R will be fitted with a THIRD electric motor which sits between the engine and the car's six-speed sequential gearbox. The purpose of this third motor is not to power the wheels but rather to act as a generator during decelerations to recover energy lost during braking and to power the electric motors during acceleration.
